Future Under Construction

Recently, close to where we live, a road was being widened. It seemed like it was under construction forever. During the work the traffic was slower, there was digging, dust and dirt everywhere, it looked like no real progress was being made. The construction company signs were the only evidence that something important and worthwhile was happening amidst the mess. And then suddenly, it seemed almost overnight, the new road opened. It was wider, faster, smoother and less congested.

At the minute, as you look at your life, it might just seem messy, disrupted, slow, frustrating, like nothing much is happening.  There’s a lot of digging and dirt, but not much to show for it.  You wonder is any progress being made. Is it really worthwhile? Will it ever be finished?

However, if you really look with eyes of faith, you will see signs that God is deeply at work.  He is preparing you for something completely new.  He is removing obstacles, clearing ground and making a way for you.  Nothing new is ever built without a process of construction.

Isaiah 40:3-5 “A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord ; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Isaiah 42:16 NIV
