To everyone who knew him, David simply looked like a shepherd and a harpist - but inside he was a king. Just because he didn’t yet occupy the palace or sit on a throne didn’t mean that kingship didn’t reside within him. It was simply not yet the time for his true identity and destiny to be unveiled publicly. Killing Goliath was simply revealed more facets of his future - he wasn’t just a diligent shepherd or skilled musician - he was also a brave warrior and a courageous leader.
It’s the same with you. There is the person you are right now who everyone sees - and then there is the person God has destined you to become. Not many see it but you know it, you sense it, you’ve had glimpses of it, it’s been prophetically revealed to you. Yet your current situation looks so different than your future destiny. You might feel like you have missed it, that you’re getting too old, others seem so much further on than you. But God’s timing is perfect, He is so strategic and intentional in His dealings with you. With each new test, more facets of your true identity are being revealed, with every opportunity you are taking a step closer to your calling.
Like David, stay faithful in whatever God has called you to do today and keep serving wherever He has placed you now. Who lives within you is greater than what you see around you.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand - when I awake, I am still with you.”
“The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew a you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
